Strangers on the internet are still strangers
Strangers on the internet are still strangers
But we can't ignore the increased rate of cyber bullying & cyber crimes in the past decade. Connecting with strangers comes with it's own set of benefits and downfalls. Benefits such as broadening of the horizon, new perspective, exposure to different things, culture, people and perspectives which is all very nice but the downfalls can be so very drastic..
And if you are like me who doesn't like anything drastic, you take caution; for safety reasons ofcourse.. So first thing first never take anything on the internet literally, like NEVER EVER. Because no matter how much relatable content you have watched, the internet is a world of it's own very much different from the real world.
When an influencer does a dance routine on the airport it looks cute, but when you do the same it calls for unwanted attention and sometimes even security.. So it's not the same. On your way home you may think that was because you were not as dedicated as the influencer, which might be true because some of these influencers are a different breed..
They don't even know what the word "Embarrassed" mean. They are so confident, no amount of crowd or security makes them nervous. Which roughly translates to as I have pointed out they are simply a different species.
The second thing that makes me nervous about this situation is that, when you encounter a stranger on the internet (which you do all the time considering you are online for most of your life), you have to follow that disturbing tradition of getting to know eachother so you are no longer strangers which is the point of it all.
The problem with that is that you can't get to know eachother without sharing some personal information. And 'personal information ' and the 'internet' they never get along together well.. since the very beginning. Like the combination of these two is just not ideal, it's reckless and a simple recipe for disaster.
And the strangers on the internet are not yet so developed to only ask questions about metaverse, fanfics, animes, astrology and cats etc like if these were the topics I'll share all the information I know. But the idiots in my DM'S only ask about the regular, creepy stufff the kind that's asked in 9 to 5 job interviews, name, age, address, like who are you the FBI.
Like if your internet stranger doesn't ask strange question and ask regular questions get away with that thing, that's a red flag of danger. All jokes aside what you share on the internet can be used in million different ways. "In this world of social media, privacy is your only protection" and it should never be regarded carelessly.
Sometimes the strangers on the internet become our strange friends, and sometimes they become the 'stranger danger' that we have been warned about. So keep that in mind because you can never be too careful.
P.S. :- Yeah I'm writing this because I'm done with the bullshit going on in my DM'S, it's like I can not press block fast enough.
